Description

The School of Health Professions (SHP) at Stony Brook University invites applicants to apply for a full-time, 12-month non-tenure track faculty position at the rank of Clinical Assistant/Associate Professor in the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program. The incumbent will be located on the Southampton campus but will have responsibilities at both locations where the program is offered, the Stony Brook University East Campus-Health Sciences Center and Stony Brook at the Southampton location.

The successful candidate for this position will have experience in teaching therapeutic exercise, orthopedic physical therapy, and/or movement sciences. The faculty will report to the Chairperson of the Physical Therapy Department and will have responsibilities in teaching, research/scholarship, and service. Service responsibilities include but are not limited to advising students; providing service to the program, school, university, community and profession; and assisting the Chairperson with accreditation efforts, alumni engagement, external giving outreach and other assignments which contribute to program growth.

Stony Brook University is located on Long Island and is part of the State University of New York system. The School of Health Professions offers a three-year Doctor of Physical Therapy degree that is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE). The program has delivered the highest quality of education for five decades and provides a dynamic learning experience through interdisciplinary and professional collaborative research, relationships with strong community programs, and opportunities to develop scholarly activities both within the program and the healthcare community. The Doctor of Physical Therapy Program is one of six professional programs in the School of Health Professions and offers the DPT program at both the Stony Brook University East Campus-Health Sciences Center and at the Stony Brook Southampton location. Note: If candidate does not hold an academic doctoral degree (e.g. PhD, EdD, DSc), as a condition of hire they must enroll in a degree granting program within 2 years of hire and completion within 7 years of hire.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Applicants must have an earned degree in physical therapy, Bachelor's, Master's, or DPT (foreign equivalent or higher), from an accredited institution
  • Licensed (or eligible for licensure) to practice physical therapy in New York State
  • Three (3) years of higher education teaching experience
  • Experience teaching therapeutic exercise, orthopedic physical therapy, and/or movement sciences
  • Minimum of three years of physical therapy practice

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Earned academic doctoral degree from a regionally accredited institution, e.g. PhD, EdD, or DSc (or foreign equivalent); ABD is acceptable
  • Evidence of peer-reviewed publications and/or other peer-reviewed products that were disseminated
  • Certified in a clinical specialization related to therapeutic exercise, orthopedic physical therapy, and/or movement sciences
  • Experience teaching both in person and online/hybrid courses

To qualify for a senior faculty appointment, the candidate must meet the criteria established by the School of Health Professions (School of Health Professions' Criteria for Appointment, Promotion and Tenure).
