The Research Foundation for The State University of New York at Stony Brook Postdoctoral Associate/Senior Postdoctoral Associate in Stony Brook, New York

The School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences invites applications for the Postdoctoral Associate/Senior Postdoctoral position. The title/rank will be contingent upon the selected candidate's skills and experience in their area of expertise.

Postdoctoral Associate

Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):

Ph.D. (or foreign equivalent) in hand by September 30, 2022.

Preferred Qualifications:.

Ph.D. (or foreign equivalent) in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, or a closely related field in hand by September 30, 2022. Experience with field work, remote sensing, instrumentation, and cloud microphysics and dynamics process-orientated research. Knowledge of statistical data analysis, neural networks and/or machine learning techniques.

Brief Description of Duties:

The Postdoctoral Associate will conduct research in the under the supervision of Principal Investigator, . The selected candidate will join the Stony Brook University and Brookhaven National Laboratory Radar Observatory (). SBRO researchers seek to gain improved understanding--through remote sensing, process-level theory and analysis, and modeling studies--of the microphysical and dynamical processes that impact the lifecycle of clouds to improve their representation in climate models and increase our ability to understand and project global change. SBRO is a leader in several emerging areas of remote sensing including cm- and mm-wavelength radars, lidars, surface cameras, satellite observations, phased array and spaceborne radars.

The successful candidate will work with a team of scientists at the Environmental & Climate Sciences Department (ECSD) and the . The candidate will have a strong interest in the use of observational datasets for the study of cloud microphysics and dynamics and their interaction with the free atmosphere. This position has a high level of interaction with an international and multicultural scientific community.

Postdoctoral Associate duties will include:

Within the predetermined research scope and methodology, conduct analysis of surface-based and space-based observations from the ESCAPE field campaign that will take place in Houston, TX in the summer of 2022 for the study of the microphysical and dynamical properties of convective clouds.

Develop novel methods for integrating models and surface/space-based observations for the study of deep convective clouds.

Participate and assist in the preparation, writing, and publication of scientific manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals.
