Minimum Qualifications Four years of experience as an automotive or diesel mechanic responsible for the diagnosis of faulty vehicle and/or equipment operation and the performance of mechanical repairs covering several aspects of automotive and/or diesel systems OR an associate’s degree in automotive or diesel repair technology.Substitution: Education as detailed below may be substituted for a maximum of two years of experience.1. Graduation from a technical or vocational program, such as B.O.C.E.S, in automotive or diesel technology or automotive or diesel repair technology may be substituted for one year of experience.2. Graduation from a one-year post high school certificate program in automotive or diesel repair technology may be substituted for up to two years of experience.If verifiable, we will accept and prorate appropriate part-time and volunteer experience.

Duties Description Duties include, but are not limited to:• Diagnoses the cause of breakdowns and for performing major and minor mechanical, electrical and hydraulic repairs on self-propelled and non-self-propelled mowers, tractors, attachments, vehicles and equipment;• Works on heavy and light trucks, bulldozers, excavators, compressors, rollers, various mowing equipment, and chain saws and other small-engine equipment; • Performs routine preventive maintenance and vehicle safety inspections on a routine basis;• Performs NYS vehicle inspections;• Supervises and trains lower level or seasonal garage employees to ensure that instructions have been followed and the quality of work is satisfactory;• Conducts inspections of facilities/equipment and makes recommendations for repairs or replacements;• Operates light trucks, passenger vehicles, tractors and other equipment as required;• Experience on gas or diesel engines, hydraulic systems, reel and blade maintenance, spray rig pumps and irrigation pumps preferred.

Additional Comments OPERATING NEEDS:• May be expected to work weekends and various shifts, holidays, and special events.
