Carrier Corporation’s Air Management Systems group in Syracuse, NY, is seeking a qualified undergraduate or graduate student candidate for a full-time position during the summer of 2023. The AMS group develops advanced, highly efficient fan technologies for HVAC applications. This internship offers an opportunity to work and learn alongside practicing engineers and to assist in projects that will directly affect products under development and deployed in the field. Students will gain experience in experimental laboratory work, including wind tunnel testing, applied to a variety of practical engineering problems. Applicants should be self-motivated individuals, ideally with some background in fluid mechanics, such as related undergraduate coursework or research experience.
Work with other members of the AMS team to assist with the design and development of fan technologies using computational- and laboratory-based methods.
Develop practical engineering skills while seeing a primary project to completion
Summarize progress and findings in weekly meetings and a final report to management
Introductory fluid mechanics
Courses related to turbomachinery design are a plus.
Familiarity with the following software is desirable:
Computer-aided design (CAD), such as SolidWorks, Spaceclaim, Creo
Previous research experience in a laboratory environment is a plus.
Good communication and organizational skills are required.
The ability to travel regularly to the Carrier site is required.
Pursuing a B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in mechanical or aerospace engineering, with particular emphasis on and interest in aerodynamics and turbomachinery.
GPA must be greater than or equal to 3.0 GPA
Relevant coursework or previous internships preferred
