Position Summary: T his position supports the mission and work of the Y, a leading nonprofit charitable organization. Under the direction of the Camp Director, the Camp on Campus Guest Instructor will create and implement identified curriculum for the Camp on Campus Programs. The Instructor will provide a quality experience for children enrolled in the Camp on Campus Summer Program by facilitating a unique curriculum that facilitates learning. The Camp on Campus Guest Instructor provides leadership and assures the well-being for all, in line with YMCA of the USA guidelines and Association policies.

Salary and Benefits:

  • Salary Range: $18.00 - $24.00/hour, Seasonal Part-time non-exempt

    Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks:

  • Create an environment of interest, confidence and support, within which children can grow.

• Establish positive relationships with children, staff members, and volunteers; be a positive role model. • Create and plan a unique curriculum that provides an exciting learning experience for children enrolled in the Camp on Campus Program. • Implement, and execute the curriculum developed for the identified week. • Oversee supervision of all children; Maintain that children are never left alone and watched at all times. • Maintain housekeeping in all program areas. • Inventory and maintain supplies, get supply requests to the Camp Director. • Oversee positive reinforcement and redirection of children. • Maintain a physically and mentally safe environment for the children. • Actively support and participate in YMCA functions as notified by the Camp Director. • Attend all required staff meetings. • Substitute for staff when needed. • Other duties as assigned by Camp Director. Experience, Education and Qualifications:

• Must be at least 16 years of age. • Work or volunteer experience working with children ages 6 weeks to 12 years old. • Excellent communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills are critical to the success of this position. • Ability to be innovative, adaptive, and resourceful. • Brings to this position maturity, responsibility and a sincere interest in working with families and children. • Possesses ability to work well with other staff and to be self-motivating. • Possess a general knowledge and understanding of the YMCA, its goals, and its mission. • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and handle multiple demands simultaneously with minimal direction. • Possess and demonstrate excellent customer service, decision-making, problem solving, team oriented, creative thinking, and leadership skills. • Possess knowledge of age appropriate activities, developmental milestones, and expectations of children ages 6 weeks to 12 years old. • Ability to observe confidentiality. • Able to work a flexible work schedule.

Trainings & Certifications:

∙ Must complete online Bloodborne Pathogens and Employee Safety trainings prior to initial assignment to position. ∙ Must attend and complete Youth Protection training, as well as any other related College for Kids trainings. ∙ Must complete online Hazard Communication training within the first 90-days of employment. ∙ CPR/AED and/or First Aid certifications preferred (opportunity provided).

Physical Demands: Ability to frequently sit, use his/her hands and fingers, stand, typing, walk, reach, climb, balance, stoop, crouch, kneel and climb a minimum of two flights of stairs multiple times per day. Occasionally required to lift and/or carry and move up to 35 pounds. Specific vision abilities required close, color, distance, peripheral, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Hear noises and distress signals in a variety of environments and perform all needed rescues skills and respond appropriately in case of an emergency.

Work Environment: Duties are performed in a variety of environments; at times the incumbent may be exposed to undesirable working conditions, communicable infectious diseases, and the risk of injury from others. All residence employees are required to follow the preventive health policies of the Y at all times. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to above average.
