Syracuse University Communications Specialist in Syracuse, New York

The Communications Specialist is the primary writer and media contact for the College of Arts and Sciences Office of Communications. Position demands a seasoned, prolific and flexible writer who can deftly switch tone, length and style of writing to suit various content needs, including for multiple monthly e-newsletters, website, interviews, news stories, announcements, speaking points, and more. Excellent editing and proofreading skills are a must, as is a keen sense for how to pitch stories (via Division of Marketing and Communications) to make them attractive to media outlets. Timeliness (both in hitting deadlines and responding to media inquiries) is crucial, as is strong emotional intelligence and the ability to manage expectations with a firm but ever-pleasant manner.

Position works closely with the director of communications and content marketing manager to ensure mutual alignment with institutional messages, themes and priorities. Position also interacts daily with SU News Services and other offices in SU's Division of Marketing and Communications to help promote the work and achievements of the College.
