About the Graduate Development Program
National Grid’s Graduate Development Program (GDP) (https://careers.nationalgridus.com/graduate-development-program) is an in-depth training and development program for high achieving recent college graduates who aspire to take on future leadership roles in a dynamic, ever-changing industry. Graduates are the future of National Grid. Bringing fresh thinking, new perspectives and enthusiasm to our team, we’ll give you real responsibility and an opportunity to make an impact from day one – putting the power to supercharge your career in your hands.
Graduates start their careers at National Grid with an in-depth Orientation which gives you exposure to all part of the company, allows you to network with your Graduate cohort, GDP alumni, and senior leaders, and provides you with the opportunity to travel throughout our service territory in the northeast US. Following Orientation, Graduates begin working in their hired position and take part ongoing development activities through your first year including monthly development sessions, active mentorship, and a Capstone Project at the completion of your first year with National Grid.
National Grid is aiming for an in-person GDP experience for Summer 2022. However, we will continue to monitor the impacts of COVID-19 and will shift to a virtual program if necessary, in order to honor our commitment to our young talent pipeline.
Primarily responsible for engineering design, implementation, integration, and troubleshooting support for electric distribution and sub-transmission facing technologies; the Electric Meter Engineering Organization is at the forefront of technology development for National Grid’s U.S. business. Our team culture is self-directed and empowered. Team members work on a wide range of projects; taking innovative concepts/ visions and making them a reality. We are proud that the Electric Meter Engineering department is the “go-to” team for a vast array of stakeholders in developing realizable technology solutions for both today and a sustainable future tomorrow.
Ensure effective operations related to metering assets by providing engineering expertise and support for capital and O&M project work. Develop short and long-term asset strategies and ensure effective operations and safe designs. Evaluate and specify electric meters and related equipment. Provide metering designs and standards that meet ANSI C12, and State PSC Requirements., support other business units with engineering and troubleshooting to meet local needs.
Create and update metering standards, procedures, and specifications for meters and associated equipment, provide field support and product evaluations, ensuring ISO meter compliance. Support wholesale and retail meter installations.
Represent Meter Engineering as the project team engineer responsible for design, engineering, and specification of metering equipment.
Support Company initiatives for innovation and modernization of our energy delivery infrastructure (e.g., AMI, NY REV, etc.)
Engineer and support ISO compliant wholesale revenue meter points. This includes producing the annual testing and inventory report for the NYISO.
Represent the Company on committee’s such as; Specifications for Electrical Installations Committee (SEIC).
Undertake specific tasks of varying complexity in order to support colleagues in the design of technical solutions
Work independently with external National Grid customers to resolve meter and meter related issues, provide engineering review to ensure compliance on new installations, and disseminate required information to proper internal organizations for new installations.
Develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders in order to foster a collaborative team environment.
Test and challenge existing procedures as appropriate and highlight areas for improvement in order to ensure they are robust.
Graduate Development Program Qualifications
Bachelor or Master’s degree from an accredited institution; Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
Graduated between May 2021 and June 2022
Ability to begin the National Grid Graduate Program May 31, 2022 or June 27, 2022
Valid US driver’s license
Proven leadership experience
Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills
Applicants for the Graduate Development Program must have work authorization that does not now or in the future require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the United States
Proficent in Microsoft Office Suite
Ability to work overtime and/or holidays, nights, weekends as needed.
Some travel required
