COU 790 Internship (3 credits).

This course is a clinical supervisory experience where students are required to intern in a community mental health, higher education, or school setting during which students assume the varied roles of professional counselors in those settings. The internship experience provides for the acquisition and application of skills and core dispositions necessary for the translation of content knowledge into the art and science of effective practice in counseling. The course instructor encourages the development of analytical and evaluative skills in integrating content knowledge and clinical practice in the refinement and enhancement of professional and personal competence. It is during the internship that the professional counseling curriculum designed to provide a sound foundation of knowledge, skills, professional sensibilities, and experiences are clearly demonstrated and evaluated.
