Summary The Syracuse VAMC is seeking a qualified Physicians Assistant to be our Women's Health Director. Responsibilities MAJOR DUTIES: Serves in a dual capacity as Medical Director for Women's Health, NCHCS, and also serves as a skilled ambulatory care medicine physicians assistant, board certified in any specialty. The incumbent is a skilled ambulatory care medicine physicians assistant with a concentration on Women's Health under the Chief of Medicine with delegated responsibility for administering, coordinating, evaluating, recommending and/or developing program guidelines and policies. Represent the facility, NCHCS, on aspects of Women's Health and has authority to collaborate with central office on matters in the specialized program area. The NCHCS Women's Health mission involves supporting a growing workforce at all NCHCS locations, which is characterized as having potential need to serve lead consult for and complex Women's Health problems.Serve as liaison between Women's Health and other departments to build working partnerships to develop Comprehensive Care Centers within NCHCS for Women. In addition, duties require exceptional Women's Health clinical skills; detailed knowledge of NCHCS structure, policies, and procedures; excellent communication and interpersonal skills; as well as a good working knowledge of the VA.1. As a primary care physicians assistant, the incumbent diagnoses and treats a large variety of acute and chronic medical conditions of ambulatory and women's health. Determines the need for a variety of diagnostic procedures and orders lab tests, X-rays, and other procedures necessary to complete medical facts on the case; interprets results and makes diagnosis of disease or disorder: and prescribes course of treatment, to include referral when appropriate. Provides gender specific care services including, but not limited to vaginal exams, pap smears and breast exams. (75%)2. Serves as Medical Director for Women's Health. Works as team with Women's Veteran's Program Manager to ensure the highest quality of care is offered to female veteran patients. Responsibilities include maintaining the Women's Health Program with the responsibility of overseeing the operation of the Women's Health Clinics. The incumbent also works as a Women's Health physicians assistant and directs the work of subordinate Women's Health physicians, Physicians Assistants and Health Technicians. Provides complete medical and managerial support to the Chief of Medicine concerning the facilities Women's Health Program. Implements and coordinates continuous appraisal and evaluation of plans, status and correction in terms which are identified with Women's Health program requirements, objectives, schedules, cost and utilization of resources. Works closely with Women's Veteran for the VA Women's Program from central office. Appraises and evaluates significant differences between actual and recommended program requirements of the Women's Health Program. Recommends corrective counts of action when imbalances occur in major Women's Health projects. Reviews and analyzes policies, procedures and relationships as they pertain to the Women's Health Program and the capability of meeting commitments. Oversees the preparation, review and submission of documents and data required by NCHCS or VACO. Shares responsibility with the Women's Veteran Program Manager for overseeing the implementation of the various VA Women's Health requirements for meeting performance measures. Improve or simplify the Women's Health Program operations or reduce costs or improve clinic efficiency whenever possible. Provides guidance and assistance to Women's Health physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants. Ensures employees maintain the Women's Health database used for patient appointment reminders and to insure timely follow-up. Chairs monthly meetings for Women's Health providers and staff. Maintains awareness of and adopts a positive stance towards performance improvement programs. (25%) Work Schedule: FT Virtual: This is not a virtual position. Physician Assistant Basic Requirements Master's degree in any discipline or a bachelor's degree in any discipline with one year of experience as a Physician Assistant AND Successfully passed the PA National Certifying Exam (PANCE) (or are you in the process to taking the exam) AND Currently hold, or will hold, a full and unrestricted license to practice in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia. Physical Requirements: Must be able to physically and mentally perform the duties of Physician Assistant under normal and emergent conditions. Moderate lifting 15-44 lbs and over with assistive devices, heavy carrying of 15-44 lbs and over with assistive devices; reaching above shoulder; use of fingers, both hands required, walking or standing up to 4 hours per day; repeated bending up to 1-2 hours per day; ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination; near vision correctable; hearing aid permitted.
