In the perioperative environment of care, the Operating Room (OR) nurse provides safe, prompt, and skillful perioperative nursing care to patients undergoing invasive or operative procedures.
The range of nursing care covers the continuum of care that includes preoperative, intra operative, and immediate postoperative care. The RN primarily responsible for the following but limited duties: The incumbent is accountable for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating direct and indirect nursing care, and identifying outcomes for patients in the Operating Room setting. The incumbent is responsible for coordinating patient care delivery to ensure quality care according to established standards of care/practice, policy and procedure. The incumbent provides direct care to adult population with a variety of different conditions during the perioperative period. The incumbent cares for the acuity if patient care that ranges from ambulatory surgery patients and diagnostic procedure patients, to major, complex surgical cases. The incumbent provides leadership in improving patient care. Other duties may be assigned. Work Schedule: Variation of 8 hours shifts, with possibility of 10 hours shifts. Management reserves the right to change the tour of duty as necessary to meet mission requirements. On-call daily/weekends/holidays required. Financial Disclosure Report: Not required

Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Graduation from School of Nursing. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State agency, and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant. The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) Or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), an accrediting arm of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN).The CCNE accredits bachelors and master's degree programs.OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. In these programs, students are given a certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX and should submit this certification to VA prior to appointment. Students do not earn a BSN, but receive a MSN degree upon completion of course work. A copy of the MSN transcript must be provided to VA. Bridge programs that confer a master's degree also fully meet the education requirement, even though a Bachelor's Degree is not awarded. OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active, and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. Registration. Condition of Employment. A registered nurse (RN) will have a current, full, active and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the U.S. or in the District of Columbia. The appointing official may waive this registration if the RN is to serve in a country other than the U.S. and the RN has registration in that country (e.g., Philippines). The RN must maintain a current, full, active and unrestricted registration to continue employment with VA. Impaired Registration. ny registration(s) revoked, suspended, denied, restricted, limited, or issued/placed in a probationary status.A registered nurse who has or ever had any such impairment to their registration as listed above may be appointed only in accordance with the provisions of chapter 3, section B, paragraph 15 of this part. Preferred Experience: The Registered Nurse in the Operation Room should have at least 1 year of experience as a circulator, CPR and CNOR certification. NOTE: ACLS/BLS Certifications: Advanced Cardiac Life Support (\\ACLS) and Basic Life Support certifications are required for this position. Grade Determinations: The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade: Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or related field and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience.
