Special Assets Officer
Summary/Objectives
The commercial loan Special Assets Officer has the responsibility of resolving all classified assets assigned, this may include interviewing borrowers and requesting additional information for the evaluation process. As a workout officer, will request credit reports, reference checks, or even background checks in order to build a complete file. Determine viability of the business and develop the best plan for repayment. Collaborate with credit analysts, managers, bank counsel while consulting with the borrower. Evaluate all sources of repayment and develop the best path forward.
Negotiation of the structure, or other remedies that can help make the relationship with borrower more advantageous. This immediately suggests the need to study loan, including technical aspects of the loan such as the rate of interest, penalty fees, repayment contracts and liquidation rights, collateral position strength of guarantors. After overseeing the negotiation process, approve modifications which are within authority or submit recommendations for approval to the appropriate committee
Essential Functions
Analyses local market to determine impact on borrower.
Develops relationships with commercial customers assigned to special handling.
Confers with analyst to solve underwriting questions and determine the viability of proposed transaction.
Execute and monitor business services strategic plan as assigned.
Establishes negotiates and approves loans within specified limits or refers to loan committees for approval. Given the size and complexity of the transaction this will often require presentation to the banks board of Directors to request approval.
Perform credit analysis on existing customers including recommendations regarding ideal credit structure review frequency, security requirements and approve/denial of request.
Provide monitoring/assistance to less seasoned members of the bank including commercial lenders, Portfolio Managers, Closing Coordinators and credit Analysts.
Maintain Knowledge of regional and national economic conditions, financing trends, lending regulations, loan documentation, delinquency trends and loan procedures.
Work closely with bank counsel to expeditiously resolve complex issues regarding loan proposals, commitment letters and points of law, loan documentation, and loan closings
Ensure loan agreements are complete and accurate according to policy.
Perform such other duties as may be assigned or required for efficient operations and business promotion of the bank.

Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

Required Education and Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a four-year degree from college or university,; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Fifteen Years Banking experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Experience and Qualifications
Fifteen Years Banking experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ten years of experience in lending.
Five years managing commercial relationships and a lender or equivalent.
Strong community relationships and involvement.
Good interpersonal skills.
Detail-oriented and thorough.
