C&S Companies, is seeking a full-time Wetland Scientist to join our Environmental Department in our Syracuse, New York office. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Perform field activities relating to jurisdictional wetland screenings and surveys
Complete wetland delineation projects, including flagging and GPS survey
Identify wetland and upland vegetation, soil types and hydrological characteristics
Prepare wetlands reports for review and approval by regulating agencies
Prepare permit applications
Provide assistance during proposal, work plan, and technical document preparation
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Bachelor's degree in biology, ecology, environmental science, or related program (related fields may be considered)
Certification as a Professional Wetland Scientist is preferred (candidates already progressing toward a certification may be considered)
Minimum of two field seasons of wetland delineation experience using the 1987 Corps of Engineers Wetland Delineations Manual or appropriate wetland delineation training or coursework
Familiarity with Army Corps of Engineers regional supplements
Strong writing and communication skills
Ability to work outdoors in variable weather conditions and on challenging terrain
Working knowledge of GPS mapping technologies
Experience with Corps of Engineers Nationwide Permits, New York State Section 401 and Article 15/24 permitting
General knowledge of Endangered Species Act and Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act
Strong technical writing, analytical, and problem-solving skills
A valid driver’s license
A willingness to travel and undertake overnight travel, if necessary
Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office
The ability to prepare maps using GIS and/or CADD
