The Program Assistant will work closely with program coordinators and center staff to plan and/or provide creative and engaging activities for children attending the After School and Summer programs. Coordinate and provide oversight for all program activities. Take responsibility for programming in program coordinator’s absence. Assist program participants with daily activities including homework. Provide a safe and innovative environment for program participants. Transport program participants as necessary. Maintain clean and sanitary work area. Report emergencies or incidents. Maintain guidelines established by the funding sources and agency policy and procedures.
Education and/or Experience Required at Entry: Associates Degree in Human Services field preferred. HS Diploma with one (1) year relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Relevant experience includes youth development and or working with individuals with disabilities.
Licenses/Certificate/Clearances: Valid N.Y.S. Driver’s License, registered and insured vehicle N.Y.S. Child Abuse Registry clearance, OPWDD fingerprinting background clearance.
Skills/Abilities: Knowledge of computer systems and computer operations. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
Working Conditions and Environment/Physical Demands: Manual dexterity sufficient to work with children/adults in a challenging and active environment. Mobility sufficient to drive to and participate in meetings at client’s homes and/or community facilities which may not meet Federal accessibility standards for disabled individuals.
