Regeneron Pharmaceuticals Summer 2022 Intern- Imaging Data Science - Early Clinical Development & Experimental Sciences in Tarrytown, New York

If you are a student pursuing a Masters or PhD degree in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Data Science, or related, you may be a fit for an internship in our Global Development organization.

Tarrytown, NY is where medicines are discovered. Our robust research and development engine allows us to discover therapies that could have a profound impact on patient health and scientific outcomes.

We generate ideas, explore them and challenge them on their way to becoming life-changing medicines.

Our unique ability to repeatedly and consistently translate science into medicine has led to a robust pipeline of clinical-stage medicines, all of which were discovered in our laboratories. Our investigational treatments target allergic and inflammatory diseases, cancer, cardiovascular and metabolic diseases, neuromuscular diseases, infectious diseases and rare diseases.

It’s a collegial place where science leads, and you’ll be supplied with what you need to do great work. We’re creative thinkers and rigorous workers. We never lose sight of the fact that the work we do here can change the world.

Project Description

The objective of the intern project will be to develop machine learning/AI tools that use clinical imaging data for improved diagnosis and severity assessment of metabolic diseases. At Regeneron, we are currently running and planning several clinical trials for the treatment of metabolic diseases, including non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) and lipodystrophy. In the context of personalized medicine, it is of critical importance that those patients who will most likely benefit from treatment are selected during clinical development of the therapeutics, but also in the post-marketing setting. Imaging often plays a crucial role in selection of patients, given the information on tissue structure and function that can be extracted from clinical images (e.g. MRI and CT images). With the rapid development in machine learning and AI technologies, it is now recognized that a previously unthinkable amount of imaging parameters can be extracted from clinical images in a time efficient manner. These imaging parameters, possibly enriched with non-imaging data, provide a comprehensive input for the development of models for robust disease assessment, which will be the focus of this project.

The internship will be in a highly collaborative environment, based in the Clinical Imaging team of Regeneron’s Early Clinical Development and Experimental Sciences (ECD&ES) department. The intern will have access to large-scale imaging datasets available at Regeneron. The project has the potential to beneficially impact Regeneron’s clinical programs in metabolic diseases by providing more accurate and refined imaging-based screening methods.
