Job Summary

Midland Asphalt Materials Inc. provides advanced pavement preservation solutions for our customers' needs. Reporting directly to the Regional Manager, the Quality Assurance/Control Manager will support the region's manufacturing and construction operations. This position is responsible for managing and coordinating the collecting, measuring, and testing of materials for construction projects including aggregates, hot and warm mix asphalt, emulsions, soils/sub-base sampling, core sampling, laboratory testing and mix design. This position will report out of our office in Tonawanda, NY or Lyons, NY but is expected to travel to job sites and other manufacturing facilities throughout New York and Pennsylvania.

Main Responsibilities

Supervise, train, and develop 3-5 quality control lab technicians
Develop and implement quality control/compliance programs for the manufacturing sites and job sites
Obtain/maintain all necessary permits, licenses and certifications for self and all staff
Perform laboratory testing procedures in accordance with NYSDOT, PennDOT, ASTM and AASHTO testing standards
Calculate and record test results obtained and communicate those results to the Regional Manager, Facilities Manager, and manufacturing employees; prepare reports and/or presentations of results
Participate in AASHTO proficiency training and competency evaluations
Ensure that equipment is calibrated, verified and checked according to schedule
Ensure that equipment software updates are implemented
Communicate with Regional Manager, Facilities Manager, and manufacturing employees in order to maintain an adequate inventory of small equipment, chemicals, and other supplies needed in the laboratory
Ensure compliance with all NYSDOT, PennDOT and MAMI quality control standards
Performs other duties as required or assigned

Qualifications and Physical Requirements

Degree in Chemical Engineering/Chemistry or similar field required.
10 or more years of experience in the construction industry in a quality control and laboratory testing environment required
Previous management/supervisory experience is required
Ability to create and facilitate culture change
Must have a valid driver's license with a good driving record
Must adhere to all Midland safety regulations
Required to work varying hours, including nights/weekends
Ability to travel extensively during the peak season
Regularly required to lift and/or move up to 40 pounds with or without assistance
Frequently required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
Standing/working on feet for long periods, and walking across uneven terrain
Frequent exposure to loud noise
Regularly exposed to all outdoor weather conditions, dust, and airborne particles
Regularly exposed to fuel, oil, and other chemicals
