Job Description:

The Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP) at Russell Sage College is a grant-funded program sponsored by the New York State Department of Education to support underrepresented and economically disadvantaged students pursuing science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) majors and licensed health professional careers. CSTEP offers academic workshops and seminars, academic support and enrichment, career planning workshops, support in finding research or internship experience in STEM content areas and licensed careers as well as numerous other opportunities critical to student success.

Description of Duties:

  • To work closely with the Director and assist with the mission of CSTEP to provided supplemental support services, including but not limited in the organizing and developing appropriate activities

  • To be able to work well with a variety of students and professional staff on both the Albany and Troy campus

  • To assist Director with providing appropriate supplemental counseling to promote student success in STEM and licensed professions

  • Must be aware of eligibility requirements to be considered CSTEP at Russell Sage College

  • Assist with the recruitment of CSTEP on the Albany or Troy campus

  • Monitor student progress, review grades and progress

  • Assist with providing one-on-one supplemental academic advisement

  • Assist with the coordination of tutorial support services on the Albany or Troy campus and time management skills

  • Have commitment to student-centered advisement

  • Assist with providing graduate school and internship information

  • Be able to collaborate with other departments on campus and in the community

  • Refer students to the Colleges Academic Support Services and Career-Counseling Center on both the Albany and Troy campus.

  • Assist with the coordination of CSTEP Student Ambassadors

  • Assist with planning and programming for the Summer Academy and Summer Research Program

  • Maintain counseling notes

  • Evaluate individual student progress and develop effective plan of action to assist student in meeting academic and career goals.

  • Work as the writing tutor

  • Provide professional development workshops and opportunities for students.

  • Assist with planning and implementing workshops and trips.

  • Assist with data collection to be used to further strengthen the program and for NYSED reports and Russell Sage College

  • Provide referrals for personal counseling and crisis intervention as needed

  • Assist the Director and Associate Director in providing individual and /or group counseling in areas unique to CSTEP students

  • Assist with programming as needed during occasional evening and weekend activities

  • Be able to work effectively with a culturally and economically diverse population.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited College or University

  • Experience working with a diverse population.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree

  • Experience in CSTEP or Academic and student support services

  • Experience working with first generation college students in STEM or licensed professions
