Utica National Insurance Group Auto Claims Representative - Material Damage Unit in Utica, New York

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Receive claims assignments consisting of insured and claimant accident reports.

  2. Investigate multiple lines claims pertaining to material damage first-party and property damage.

  3. Communicate directly with insureds, claim ants, shops and others in person, by telephone and through written correspondence. Correspond with the Home Office and other field offices.

  4. Check and verify damages, obtain copies of polic e reports, motor vehicle reports, repair bills, estimates, appraisals, and other information.

  5. Determine extent of damages, coverage questions and settlement values by evaluating all the facts developed through investigation.

  6. Adjust, negotiate and settle justified claims for proper amounts within authorization or as directed by superior; issue settlement drafts or deny unjustified cl aims as soon as practical (consult with superior on all questionable matters, on all settlements exceeding adjuster’s authorization and on all claims prior to denial).

  7. Maintain strict diary on all active files.

  8. Follow directives and instructions from Claims Supervisors and superiors.

  9. Review and study claim practices, policy coverages, procedures, civil and motor vehicle laws, bulletins, and attend company training classes.

  10. Review incoming loss notices and assign accordingly to claim representatives within unit or send to appropriate handling office/region.

  11. Provide exemplary customer service.

  12. Adhere to mandated state regulations.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS EDUCATION:

Four year degree in business administration or equivalent experience

COURSEWORK:

Insurance related, helpful

EXPERIENCE:

2-3 years working in a Claims environment

COMMUNICATION:

– Excellent verbal and writing skills

– Contact with insureds, claimants, and attorneys (primarily phone, some personal)

SKILLS:

– Investigative

– Negotiating

– Decision making (responsibility - who, what, how much)

– Reviewing and understanding coverages

CONFIDENTIALITY

Important, with regard to each file’s content

OTHER JOB CHARACTERISTICS:

– Required to obtain state licensing for file handling
