Groundsworker Munson-Williams is seeking to fill a full time Groundsworker position to maintain grounds of all Munson-Williams properties and assist in other areas when needed. Essential Job Functions • Acts as groundskeeper by: planting, pruning, fertilizing, transplanting flowers, trees, shrubs, removal of litter, mowing, edging, weeding, removal of snow/ice from parking lots/driveways/walking surfaces/stairways. • Assists in construction of annual summer arts festival fencing, stage and FE Invitational. • Assist with other projects in maintenance, custodial or other areas when needed. • Make pick up and deliveries for all Institute departments, which could include office moves, exhibition pedestals/risers/furniture, dorm furniture, items from painting/storage or other storage areas. • Make trash pickups and separate recyclables. • Other duties as assigned. Working Environment: The Groundsworker will regularly stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach, sit, climb and may lift and carry heavy (up to 50 lbs.) materials for throughout the day. Significant portions of daily assignments involve application of manual skills requiring motor coordination in combination with finger dexterity. A majority of the work is subject to seasonal conditions and weather extremes. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities • High School diploma or equivalent and 1 to 3 years of job-related experience. • Proficient w/ all types of gasoline, diesel and power equip (i.e. plow truck, 4wd tractor). • Basic knowledge of small engine repair. • Valid NYS Driver’s license. • Responsible for upkeep, maintenance and service to all Grounds equipment (working knowledge of small engine repair). • Effective organizational and time management skills and ability to prioritize tasks, work independently, and follow through on all assignments with minimal direction. • Ability to safely operate grounds power equipment (zero turn mower, ride on tractor, push mower, string trimmer, snow thrower, chain saw, leaf blower, hedge trimmer, aerator, sod cutter, leaf vacuum, etc.). • Ability to safely operate a plow truck, UTV (Bobcat), broom, compact tractor with loader. • Ability to safely tow and backup a 12’ dump trailer with electric brakes. • Basic personal computer skills that include the ability to send/receive e-mail messages, post information. About Us: Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute (Munson-Williams) is an internationally prominent fine arts center serving diverse audiences through three program divisions - Museum of Art, School of Art, and Performing Arts. The Institute was founded in 1919 and annually hosts some 600 events where patrons enjoy exhibitions, performances, art classes, and family-oriented activities. The Museum of Art is renowned for its art collection and iconic building designed by Phillip Johnson. It is among the nation’s most significant mid-sized art museums. Its renowned permanent collection is focused on 300 years of fine and decorative arts, with strengths in 19th-century American painting and decorative arts, 20th-century through contemporary painting and sculpture, and European Modernism paintings. The School of Art offers a robust community arts education program featuring a wide range of art classes for the community at large. It also offers a college art program affiliated with Pratt Institute of Art and Design (Pratt MWP) where 200 students spend the first two years of their bachelor of fine arts degree program at the Munson-Williams campus in Utica before completing their studies at Pratt’s main campus in Brooklyn. The Performing Arts division presents world-famous soloists and ensembles, rising stars, recitals with commentary, cinema, family programs, outdoor festivals and concerts, and a wide array of art-related events in the museum’s 270-seat auditorium or sculpture court, which seats 500 patrons. Regular attractions include a weekly film series, Concerts in the Court, Keyboard Conversations, the For Kids and Families programs, and an annual summer arts festival.
