S&P Global Lead Cloud Database Engineer in Virtual, New York

S&P Dow Jones Indices is seeking a Senior Lead, Database Engineering to be a key player in the Database Engineering team to manage various databases in the AWS Cloud environment used for running index applications. This role requires a seasoned engineer who works effectively, both independently as well as collaboratively, in a team environment.

The candidate will build solutions to manage AWS Database resource provisioning and administration for our index applications. As part of the core S&PDJI Technology team, the candidate will have the opportunity to work on innovative technologies, work closely with Index business stakeholders and participate in formulating the technology strategy to support & grow the Index business.

Responsibilities:

  • Provision and administer RDS & Aurora Databases in AWS Cloud.

  • Design configuration standards for several RDBMS and NoSQL databases.

  • Develop database engineering solutions for Postgres, MySQL, Oracle, MS SQL.

  • Design data sharding, partitioning, BigData solutions (EMR).

  • Deploy NoSQL databases like MongoDB and DocumentDB.

  • Enforce database security policies and audit logging mechanisms.

  • Configure Database monitoring and alerts.

  • Automate database provisioning and upgrades.

  • Define procedures for database backup, recovery and retention, disaster recovery.

  • Provide solutions to optimize database performance and improve standards.

  • Deploy security patches and upgrades on databases.

  • Recommend hardware and right sizing infrastructure.

  • Participate in Risk Assessment reviews, audits.

  • Implement highly available & fault-tolerant solutions to withstand system failures.

  • Maintain database configuration, support procedures and runbook.

  • Manage and execute disaster recovery plans, coordinate change control process.

  • Troubleshoot Production issues and provide workarounds to restore business continuity.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or Engineering is required, or in lieu, a demonstrated equivalence in work experience; MS in Computer Science desirable.

  • 6-10 years of experience in Database Engineering and Database Administration

  • AWS Certification is desirable

  • Experience with cloud computing platforms (AWS, Azure, Google)

  • Experience with RDBMS like MySQL, PostgreSQL, MS SQL Server

  • Experience with NoSQL databases like MongoDB, DocumentDB

  • Knowledge of RedShift, Graph databases

  • Experience with Data Lake and Data Warehousing applications.

  • Knowledge of servers, virtualization systems, storage and network engineering.

  • Experience with monitoring tools like Splunk, Datadog, OEM or other products.

  • Hands-on experience in troubleshooting production issues and meeting critical SLAs.

  • Excellent communication skills are essential, with strong verbal and writing proficiencies.

Compensation/Benefits Information (US Applicants Only):

S&P Global states that the anticipated base salary range for this position is $67,600 - $190,100. Base salary ranges may vary by geographic location.

In addition to base compensation, this role is eligible for an annual incentive bonus/a sales commission plan.
