*Position Summary: *
The Go!Healthy SNAP-Ed is a Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Nutrition Education and Obesity Prevention program, which aims to improve eating habits and physical activity behaviors among the youth and families served by Children’s Aid. The intervention includes: behaviorally focused, evidenced-based nutrition education classes and food demonstrations with children and adults, the implementation of policy and environmental (PSE) activities to facilitate the adoption of healthy nutrition and physical activity behaviors, and the use of social marketing and media. Implementation occurs at Children’s Aid community centers, clinics, and schools, located in Harlem, Washington Heights, the South Bronx, Northern Staten Island, and on virtual platforms.
Under the supervision of the Manager of SNAP-Ed Direct Education and in close coordination with colleagues, the Lead Nutritionist – Direct Ed will be responsible for coordinating and implementing nutrition and cooking education classes with youth and parents.
Implement nutrition and cooking education with youth and adults. Prep for class content and implementation of cooking component.
Coordinate site logistics including identifying site locations, class times and the purchase and delivery of all program equipment, materials and supplies. Maintain working relationships and communication with site leadership and staff.
Assist in the development and implementation of trainings and professional development workshops for program staff.
Maintain appropriate stock of program equipment, materials and supplies at sites.
Host educational tables and cooking demonstrations at community events and fairs.
Assist with development of program curriculum content and trainings for PT nutritionists for direct education, including staff workshops, parent classes, and food box.
Develop content for social media and other blogs, website and other media.**
Assist with the implementation of program monitoring and evaluation activities.**
Perform some administrative functions, such as tracking numbers of clients served, ordering equipment, and managing expenses and reimbursement.
Comply with all privacy laws including HIPAA, FERPA, etc.
Coordinate and collaborate with Go!Healthy team and program partners through participation in team meetings, facilitating information sessions and workshops, and generally supporting the Go!Healthy mission.
Passionate and dynamic educator who connects well with and inspires people of diverse ages and backgrounds.
A minimum of 15 credits of nutrition classes required. Master’s degree in nutrition, public health or related field and/or Certified Registered Dietitian is a plus.**
A minimum of one year of nutrition and cooking education experience with youth and adults. Additional experience in early childhood and youth education is preferred.
Bilingual(written and oral) in English and Spanish strongly preferred.**
Experience and passion for promoting and increasing access to local, seasonal, and good food in urban communities.
Understanding of food’s intersections with social justice and health equity. A demonstrated commitment to apply critical racial, gender and environmental justice lenses to food education.
Experience implementing program monitoring and evaluation activities.
Energetic, with great capacity to prioritize and juggle multiple projects efficiently.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Loves working in a team and values cultivating a strong team dynamic.
Organized, detail-oriented and self-motivated.
This position is funded is through September 2023. After this time, the position is contingent on continued funding.
