Rescue Mission Alliance of Syracue Inc ASSISTANT STORE MANAGER in Waterloo, New York

The Rescue Mission is seeking a Full Time Assistant Store Manager at our Seneca Falls Thrifty Shopper. This is a temporary position with the potential to be permanent. The Assistant Store Manager helps with managerial tasks by filling in for the store manager when needed; assessing, prioritizing, and delegating tasks to staff; supervising employees; overseeing that the assignments are completed; helping to keep labor expenses in line; processing all paperwork and reports; handling employee relation issues; and following store opening and closing procedures. Helps customers by providing information; answering questions; obtaining merchandise requested by customers; sizing and pricing merchandise; following store procedures and store operating policies; handling all customer situations and problems; making decisions when necessary. Helps promote store by keeping up the store appearance by cleaning and vacuuming as needed; stocking, rotating, and pulling merchandise as needed; and turning store over for seasonal changes.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Needed to Perform Effectively in this Position:

  • Prior experience in supervising employees, customer contact, and retail is required, or an equivalent degree.

  • Knowledge in inventory and display work, and experience with cash register is desired.

  • This position will require the ability to stand for long periods of time, visually check color coded racks and sizing by number, bending and lifting, some weekends and evenings will be required.

    Education & Experience Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED certificate required

  • 3-5 years previous retail experience required

  • 3-5 years customer service experience required

  • Prior cash register & reconciliation experience preferred

  • Must be able to use a computer

    Additional Requirements

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, 3 evenings per week and some days (schedule subject to change at manager’s discretion)

  • Customer-service oriented

  • Manages time efficiently

  • Good Judgment

  • Ability to stand for long hours

  • Lifting and transferring clothes from rack to rack.

  • Unloading truck shipments and pushing racks.

  • Ability to maintain a clean work environment
