The Webster Public Library is canvassing the Civil Service list for Library Assistant in order to fill a full-time benefited Communications & Outreach position. Applicants who hold permanent competitive civil service status and are eligible for transfer or reinstatement under Civil Service Rules are encouraged to apply. Position reports to the Assistant Director of Adult Services and Facilities.

Typical Duties: (other duties as may be assigned)

Reference Three Information Desk or Children's Room shifts weekly (1 regular evening shift) Provide information, orientation, and readers advisory for physical and digital collections Recommend and locate library materials and information for all ages

Communications Prepares print and digital communications for multiple formats, including regular email newsletters, printed brochures, and rotating slides for digital displays Creates social media stories for the Adult Services department and represents that department on the Social Media Committee Oversees library signage in coordination with all library departments Assist staff to create effective internal and external communications Provides regular updates to the Town and press for library news Address gaps in public awareness of library offerings and value

Outreach Maintains WPL calendar(s) for Outreach events Collects data from Outreach events Maintains and inventories BookBox collection During summer, assists running a location of BookBox (avg. 1/week) Attends outreach events, including some nights and weekends Ensures outreach event supplies are stocked and prepared for events Attend Adult Services, Outreach, and other meetings as needed

Preferred Skills/Qualifications:
Outstanding oral and written communication skills Proficiency with Canva or similar graphic design platforms Strong organizational and time management skills Proficiency with Microsoft or Google suite Ability to tell a story through various formats Shows enthusiasm and has the capacity to work independently Able to lift/push/pull up to 50 lbs. Able to stand for extended periods, walk, and crouch Special Requirements:
