Carl Zeiss, Inc. Vice President and Head of Accounting & Finance in White Plains, New York

The Vice President of Finance and Accounting / Treasurer is an exceptional finance professional and hands-on with company accounting (under IFRS), planning, reporting and treasury activities. This executive oversees all financial aspects of Carl Zeiss, Inc. (CZI), partners with all ZEISS entities and their finance / controlling functions in North America, is part of the global Accounting/Finance Community at ZEISS and responds to the requirements of Carl Zeiss AG as the ultimate global management holding.

This role is responsible for the overall corporate financial plans and policies along with its accounting practices and the conduct of its relationship with lending institutions and the global ZEISS financial community. The function manages and coordinates accounting, treasury, budgeting/reporting, audit, pension fund, payroll, and insurance activities for CZI - on a strategic level and as end-to-end shared services to the other North American entities.
The role has a global and regional perspective: The individual is a core member of the global Accounting function and leadership team, at the same time they are also member of the regional Shared Services North America leadership team.
The role has key leadership responsibilities: Building, managing and leading a team that acts on the highest professional level, delivers high quality, high efficiency guidance, support and execution for relevant end-to-end processes (e.g., OTC, P2P), especially through highly pressurized periods including month end, year-end and annual budgeting.

Responsibilities include:
Business and financial strategy and planning, monitoring, management and reporting, including management, development and execution of policies, systems, (end-to-end) processes and personnel involved in accordance with corporate policy and objectives including namely:

General Accounting

Inventory Accounting

Accounts Receivables within the OTC process

Accounts Payables within the P2P process

Payroll

Treasury, Financial Planning and Reporting for CZI

Pension Fund Management

Insurance Management

Reporting and accounting as per regulatory and legal requirements including dividends, annual report and accounts.

Financial staff management, motivation, training, recruitment and selection.

Coordinates the provision of procedures and systems necessary to maintain proper records and to afford adequate accounting controls and services.

Directs the treasury responsibilities as custodian of the funds, securities and assets of the Corporation.

Appraises the Corporation's financial position and issues periodic financial reports.

Directs and coordinates the establishment of the corporate budget programs.

Manages compliance with both GAAP and German HBII, IFRS Accounting rules.

Primary interface with German parent stockholder in all financial matters.

Coordinates the Corporation's insurance programs.

Directs and analyzes studies of general economic, business and financial conditions and their impact on the Corporation's policies and operations.

Evaluates overall business conditions and keeps the President advised on such matters.

Formulates and recommends operating policies and objectives or changes in existing policies and objectives.

Performs other duties as assigned by the president or the Board.

Responsible for determining corporate charge-outs from shared services to legal entities.

Controls corporate expenses to minimize any expense variances.

Management of strategy for and liaison with private placement and business analysts' community.

Contributes to strategic planning and development as a member of executive team and/or ad hoc M & A project teams

Supervises Pension Fund issues with Fund manager

Collaboration with and core member of regional and global leadership teams

Masters degree and CPA designation highly preferred

10 + years progressive responsibility in a fast-paced environment including a track record in identifying, selecting, motivating, and developing staff is a must.

Aptitude for analyzing existing operations and implementing new policies, procedures and systems.

A proven track record in managing a shared service function, ideally Accounting & Finance, in a global company is a must

Ideally experience in the setup, implementation and steering of end-to-end processes like order-to-cash, purchase-to-pay, payroll

Seasoned financial management professional with strong business development and corporate strategy acumen.

Hands-on performer-willing and capable of representing ZEISS to the financial world.

Ability to plan, direct and control a financial operation.

Strong knowledge of financial systems and tools

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential.

Some public accounting experience is also favored.

Some knowledge and experience in capital equipment industry is desirable.

Preferred: experience with overseas European headquarters
