Overview of Position: Ski and Snowboard Instructors are responsible for delivering a quality service to our guests. It is important to realize you are a representative of Windham Mountain Resort. How you handle the guests and the impression you leave is very important. You must be friendly and polite and remember to make our guests feel at home and leave with a positive experience.
Job Duties: The list below best represents many of the tasks you will be asked to perform at some time during your employment at Windham Mountain. This list of duties is not intended to represent all of the tasks you may be asked to perform, however Windham Mountain will never require you to perform a task that is inherently unsafe or that you are not adequately trained to perform.
Be present and ready to teach at all designated lesson times.
Be able and ready to work in all types of weather and ski conditions. This includes conditions ranging from varied weather to extreme snow conditions, including ice, heavy snow, rain and sleet.
Fulfill a season long teaching commitment.
Be able to ski safely and confidently in all terrain
Accept teaching assignments without distinction as to desirability.
Attend scheduled clinic sessions to improve skiing and teaching knowledge and ability.
Must be able to deal with a magnitude range of guests both young and adult.
Patience and the love of teaching is a must.
Other undefined duties may be required periodically.
PSIA/AASI Level 1 certification or above
Instructors ages 14-17 work in the Children’s Learning Center (CLC)
Minimum of open track parallel on moderate terrain.
Must be able to link turns on intermediate terrain.
Must be able to teach all ages and all ability levels.
Ability to work during peak times and in bad weather.
Ability to set lesson goals and organize lesson activities to achieve them.
The ability to apply basic educational concepts to ski teaching: including styles, class handling, demonstrations, and proper use of terrain and error correction.
Understand and apply ATS model.
Understand the skills development concepts including proper tasks/exercises selection.
Basic knowledge of ski equipment and terminology.
Student centered and supportive disposition.
Company policy supportive.
Good Safety/Risk awareness and practices.
Name Tag must always be worn – no exceptions.
Must be neat and clean – shower daily, nails clean: overall approachable appearance.
Snow Sports Uniform (issued): Coat, Inner Insulator, and Pants – must wear at least one issued coat as the showing layer.
Hats are not an item included in the uniform, however if one chooses to wear a hat, it must be a black Windham Mountain hat.
Work Schedule and Conditions: We are in the business of providing a quality product and experience for our guests. Traditionally our busy periods are during weekends and holiday periods which you will be expected to work. You can also expect to be asked to work extra hours or days on occasion, especially during the holiday periods.
- We will attempt to offer consecutive days off and accommodate special scheduling request, but we cannot guarantee that we will be able to satisfy all requests. We expect employees to arrive promptly.
