Windham Mountain Resort Snowboard Training Supervisor in Windham, New York

Overview of Position: The Snowboard Training Supervisor will be responsible for creating training content, delivering snowboard training including AASI certification training, new hire training, and on-going elective training to the staff, as well as developing and mentoring both new and veteran staff trainers. Successful candidates will be able to successfully model and align staff trainers and instructors to the PSIA-AASI Learning Connections Model and the Fundamentals of Snowboarding through relevant development and facilitation of educational materials. This position will also perform teaching and coaching duties during peak times. This can be a full-time or part-time seasonal position starting in November and ending in late March.

Job Responsibilities and Duties: The list below best represents many of the tasks you will be asked to perform at some time during your employment at Windham Mountain Resort. This list of duties is not intended to represent all of the tasks you may be asked to perform.

  • Identify training needs for the snowboard program including daily group and private lessons, season-long programming, new instructor training, certification training, and ongoing personal development training

  • Consistently model and demonstrate the AASI Snowboard Fundamentals and the Learning Connections Model with a high level of professionalism

  • Collaborate with the training manager and operations managers to ensure all training content is in alignment with the Ski and Ride School training standards

  • Create, develop, and deliver training content that enhances the staff’s understanding and application of Teaching Skills, Technical Skills, and People Skills for their guests

  • Develop and mentor new and veteran staff trainers to build training depth among staff

  • Schedule training and assign trainers in a manner that balances the needs and availability of the staff with the operational needs of the Ski and Ride School

  • Consistently model, demonstrate, and uphold all Ski and Ride School policies, especially as it relates to guest and employee safety

  • Teach lessons and/or coach athletes regularly and as needed during our peak times including weekends and holidays

  • Other undefined duties may be required periodically

Job Qualifications and Skills:

  • AASI Certified Level III or equivalent required

  • AASI or USASA Freestyle accreditations preferred

  • AASI Children’s Specialist accreditation preferred

  • Previous experience as a staff trainer in a Ski and Ride School preferred

  • Teaching Skills:

  • Ability to collaborate with the leadership team, staff trainers, and instructor staff on long-term goals and short-term objectives that will deliver relevant and practical training content

  • Create and deliver training content that effectively manages information, activities, terrain selection, and pacing to develop instructor staff in achieving desired lesson outcomes

  • Foster a training culture that promotes play, experimentation, and exploration of skills and mountain terrain

  • Adapt training plans and content to the changing needs of the instructor staff

  • Facilitate the ability for instructors to reflect upon experiences and sensations in lessons, providing opportunities for growth and skill development

  • Manage the emotional and physical risk of students and instructors with strong goal-setting and ongoing performance management tactics

  • Technical Skills:

  • Convey and apply accurate technical information for the activities being taught

  • Observe and evaluate the instructors Teaching Skills, Technical Skills, and People Skills, and prescribe information that will enhance these skills

  • Understand the Snowboard Fundamentals and how to convey them to an instructor staff with a varying knowledge base

  • People Skills

  • Develop relationships with all stakeholders based on trust to create an environment in which skill development is likely to occur

  • Engage in meaningful two-way communication to establish relevant and realistic training goals, develop and refine content to meet the needs of all stakeholders, and deliver a training product that inspires the instructor staff to invest in their ongoing development

  • Identify, understand, and manage your emotions and actions in a manner that fosters an environment of trust, learning, and development for growth

  • Recognize and influence the behaviors, motivations, and emotions of the instructor staff and trainers to promote a culture of training and development

  • Intermediate computer skills including Microsoft Office programs required

Work Schedule and Conditions: We are in the business of providing Above & Beyond programs and guest experiences. Our busy periods are during weekends and holiday which you will be expected to work. You can expect to be asked to work extra hours or days on occasion, especially during the holiday periods.
