IBM Technical Science Writer - IBM Research in YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, New York

Introduction

At IBM, work is more than a job - it's a calling: To build. To design. To code. To consult. To think along with clients and sell. To make markets. To invent. To collaborate. Not just to do something better, but to attempt things you've never thought possible. Are you ready to lead in this new era of technology and solve some of the world's most challenging problems? If so, lets talk.

Your Role and Responsibilities

We are looking for a self-starting, intellectually curious person to join our team as a Technical Science Writer . In this role, you are part of a nimble cross-functional team that produces communications and content in support of IBM Research and its scientists around the world. You will drive impact to the organization while contributing to how we think about, plan for, and create impactful content that showcases the technical innovation of the IBM researcher.

As a seasoned writer, you'll feel at home as you draft, shape, and share our story through a variety of channels and mediums, including the blog, website, videos, social channels and more. You will be the conduit between researchers and myriad external audiences — ranging from technical to mainstream — as well as a key contributor to broader communications that tell the story of who we are, what we do and what we stand for in IBM Research.

No two days will be alike. If that sounds like fun to you and you are willing to learn new things, stretch yourself, and share the load with colleagues when needed, this may be the job for you.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage IBM Research blog, implementing best practices to maximize its impact, including integration across digital properties, SEO, and social media engagement.

  • Lead creation of highest quality content (blog posts, web copy, social media copy) showcasing scientific and technical achievements in AI, quantum computing, and other research areas. Consider tone, style and voice.

  • Work with creative partners to drive the creation of video, animated and other visual content for external owned platforms and interactive social channels, from idea generation through draft, design and publication.

  • Frame core messaging and identify strategic priorities in research, in tandem with colleagues and scientific leadership, to guide content development.

  • Use insights from data to inform decisions about channels, style and approach.

  • Discover, research and report on the most innovative researchers and projects from IBM Research, clearly positioning it as the discovery engine behind many of the world’s most important technical breakthroughs.

Team with social engagement lead on copy and content to drive high levels of social engagement.

This position is located in IBM Research offices in Yorktown Heights, NY.

This role requires the ability to work in the U.S. without current or future need for IBM sponsorship.

  • 7+ years of writing, journalism, or communications experience, preferably in a technology, research or government organization.

  • Superb writing skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to synthesize complex technologies, concepts and strategies.

  • Superior organizational skills; able to manage competing priorities at once.

  • Team player who can effectively collaborate with executives and colleagues at all levels.

  • Thrive in a dynamic environment; resourcefulness and curiosity are key
